hair things

The love hate relationship between me and my hair is crazy. One minute I love it and wanna show it off and the next minute I want it in box braids because I really cant deal with it. I guess I'm emotionally attached to it , in all honesty I'm emotionally attached to anything.. anywayyyyyyy. I have been growing the afro for the past year and a few months. I am happy with how its taking shape now. Its at a point where I can do more with it so, I have decided to take a break from braids for a month and see how much fun I can have with it.

I guess if I was not this lazy and like those natural hair enthusiast I would have the perfect afro. Who knows, I would have a hair blog and some sponsors.

Will post again soon about this hair challenge.. keeping in mind I colored my hair recently and it came out black instead of burgundy.. story for another day.

New hair

So guess who has a new hair do. MEEEE. Ok its nothing major really. Its just a weave. What shocked me was how people reacted to me hou. People thought I had relaxed my hair and were up in arms while some just wanted me to have my afro back.let me clear things up. I did not relax my fro. This is a protective style and I wanted a new look so I did a weave.

Sunday best

So Sunday I celebrated mass in a way that was a first for me. It was a thanks giving mass that was of a newly ordained priest in Cape Town. So we woke up earlier than usual and went on a little road trip ( ok not really but its a bit far from home) to Stellenbosch. It was a seriously beautiful experience and it was held under the trees and all. I am convinced that we were about 500 people in attendance. I took a few pictures on the day for show.

People were dressed in their best best traditional clothes on the day. It was a traditional spectacular. I loved it hey.

That was me on the day. Kept it simple and my fro was out to play. The day was beautiful I enjoyed the whole experience.

Its a wrap story

So I have been admiring other girls and the head wraps they rock so well. I wanna be the cool chic with the head wraps also. So I decided to take matters into my hands and play around with my scarf and see if i can really be "that chic".This was just a trial run. Be nice about it.

So I'm thinking I like this whole look for me. I will start investing in some hot head wraps. Me like it a lot. One more thing is that I need to learn to wrap properly thou. I cant go out half baked.

love .. Abs

me rock lil fro

Just in case you see a chick in the  streets and you like "that face looks familiar" or are like hold up "I know that face" well that face is me. I removed the braids after fearing that they were hella tight and my hairline was at stake.

I'm rocking my natural hair while thinking of my next move. Maybe braids but less tight and more on the box braids tip that I do usually anyway.

When I eventauly decided I will document the process and show it off to you with love.

The hairy story

So 3rd degree had the whole black women race up in arms last night with the hair topic. Ladies were voicing out different views on twitter about hair. Some thought it was a good topic , some just did not like it. Well I will take you threw what I felt and still feel as a sister with hair things to say.

me and my hair

First things first I have experienced almost every hair issue imaginable to my fellow black sister. I have wanted long hair, I have wanted short hair, wanted an afro, wanted to cut it all off, I have been burned by the the relaxer, sat for days while getting braids, prayed to God that he saves me hairline and patted my weave cause it was itching.Threw it all I have had my love Jones with my hair.

rocking an afro

Then 3rd degree came along yesterday and I was just not having it really.First it was the fact that that whole story line was jacked from "Good hair" and that angle was told to death. Secondly it was the fact the Debra was telling the black womens story. Telling us about western this western that, relaxer this and relaxer that. I get it she is doing her job and she has to eat but still I was hacked by it all. Irritated to be exact. The black women and her hair is a sensitive story that not everyone can talk about.

my hair and I
So what am I saying. What a women decides to do with her crown is her business. She is the one who has to deal with the receeding hairline, itchy scalp and the rest of the things that come with her hair. Its all about choice and how far she is willing to go and is comfortable with when it comes to her hair.  "I am not my hair, I am not this skin, I am the soul that lives within" a line from a song says. Thats what its all about.
