Gentlegiant*. "Unashamed of who I am"

The brand is called gentleGiant*, its only in its infancy stage as its basically only a year old and sales only start this year. The facebook page reads “ gentleGiant* is more than just a streetwear clothing company. We do not just sell cool great quality products, we are the gentleGiants*, unashamed, humble”.    So I decided to ask 1 of the 3 minds behind the brand a few questions in order to find out what sets them apart.

It was just 6 questions on whatsapp, cause that’s how we do, technology has made it so easy to like things. This was also going to mean that I was not gonna try and change what has been said, I was just gonna give it to you how I received it.

1.       The inspiration behind the line?

A: Streetwear is done wrong.

2.       Why do you say that?

A: We've always been inspired by the hip hop culture that's infused in poetry and skate culture in what we wear. But it's now come to a point where streetwear is made for show off, bragging and objectifying of woman. As people in the Christian faith wearing such clothes that's objectifies and pushed profanity with nothing affirming for me was a great challenge. We are here to change that. We are here to say what we wear is who we are. We need more gentle souls, humble beings even the artistic.

3.       The inspiration and the message behind the name?

A: Gentlegiant*. "Unashamed of who I am"

4.       What makes this brand different from all the youth culture brands that are out?

A: We are not here to reinvent streetwear culture. We are here to revolutionaries it. Clothes for the humble. The gentle.

5.       By wearing a gentle giant t or hoody, what am I saying?

A: Basically what you are saying is you are gentle. Hip hop and poetry head that wants humility and oneness back to society

"Unashamed of who you are"

GentleGiant* is big on social entrepreneurship. For every gentleGiant* cloth sold we give a portion of the revenue generated to the project "apatsa ngwana" seTswana for dress a child, we support kids from poor and child headed households to get school uniform and study material. That's what makes us different.

6.       How do I get my hands on a something from the line?

A: The website is about to go up. But for now it's directly from us. People can find us at the neighbourhood and neighbourgoods markets.

I already know what I want from the collection, Everything lol. In all honesty its always good seeing young people pushing the dream. I guess its an affirmation that, we are not all lost and that "the kids are all right". So be inspired and go out and make things happen. I am proper excited to see what the future has in store for gentleGiant*. hmmm maybe I can be a brand ambassador lol, just joking.  Its not just clothing, its a movement. yes I said it...
